KONE Granted C-TPAT Certification by U.S. Customs and Border Protection
LISLE, Ill., Nov. 27, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- KONE Inc. today announced its membership in the Customs-Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (C-TPAT) program, managed by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP). To be approved as a C-TPAT participant, KONE's international supply chain security measures were rigorously evaluated to ensure they were implemented and followed in accordance with established criteria.
As a C-TPAT member, KONE will work to promote secure borders and international trade. In exchange for following international supply chain security criteria, KONE will enjoy a range of benefits, including reduced inspection time for import shipments, a customs account manager for supply chain security, training and information sharing. KONE will also work to identify gaps in supply chain security as part of the program.
"KONE's recent C-TPAT certification is proof of our commitment to safe and efficient global trade," said Larry Wash, EVP and Area Director for KONE Americas. "Our collaboration with U.S. Customs and Border Protection and its C-TPAT partners will contribute to a more secure global supply chain."
Validation ensures that the C-TPAT participant's international supply chain security measures contained in its security profile have been implemented and are being followed in accordance with established C-TPAT guidelines.
Founded in November 2001, the C-TPAT program implements security measures to protect international trade from terrorists, while promoting a healthy global economy. Over the past few years, the program has grown to more than 10,000 certified partners in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico. The program reports that its 10,000 members account for 50 percent of all U.S. imports by value.
