Kobo Chosen As Exclusive eBook Publisher For #1 International Bestselling Author Khaled Hosseini In Brazil
New eBook from the author of The Kite Runner and A Thousand Splendid Suns now available for pre-order at kobo.com
TORONTO, April 15, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Kobo, a global leader in eReading, today announced it will be the exclusive Portuguese-language digital retailer of the new novel from Khaled Hosseini, And the Mountains Echoed, in Brazil and global markets outside of Portugal. The deal includes Hosseini's previous bestsellers, making this the first time the author's work will be available in Portuguese in digital format in these important markets. Kobo will also sell the new eBook and Hosseini's earlier titles in all other languages around the world. The new release is available for pre-order at www.kobo.com and will be available for download on May 21.
"We are pleased that the internationally renowned author Khaled Hosseini has selected Kobo as his digital partner in the increasingly important Brazilian market," said Pieter Swinkels, Vice President of Acquisition, Kobo. "We're honoured that a literary phenomenon like Khaled Hosseini recognizes the strength Kobo brings to the market and we will work closely with Livraria Cultura and Editora Globo to make his work accessible to more Readers than ever before."
Kobo's strong relationships with Hosseini's agent Chandler Crawford, along with Livraria Cultura, Brazil's premier bookseller, and Hosseini's Brazilian print publisher Editora Globo enables the companies to work together to cross-promote the Portuguese version of the long-awaited new book in both print and digital formats for their shared in-store and online customers. This is the latest example of Kobo's partnership philosophy – to create new models of bookselling based on collaborative partnerships with publishers, authors and booksellers.
The new novel, the first from Hosseini in six years, is a multigenerational novel revolving around not just parents and children but brothers and sisters, cousins and caretakers. Hosseini explores the many ways in which families love, wound, honor, betray, and sacrifice for one another; and how often we are surprised by the actions of those closest to us, at the times that matter most. Following its characters and the ramifications of their lives and choices and loves around the globe – from Kabul, to Paris, to San Francisco, to the Greek island of Tinos – And the Mountains Echoed expands gradually outward, becoming more emotionally complex and powerful with each turning page.
In addition to its availability online at www.kobo.com on May 21, Livraria Cultura customers can support their local bookstore by either buying the print book in-store, or buying the Kobo eBook through the Livraria Cultura website.
