Bound for Missouri, the statue was stranded in New York on September 11, 2001, and subsequently donated to New York City in the aftermath of the terrorist attacks.
The Milstein family, owners of Emigrant Bank, provided a permanent home for the statue outside their headquarters in 2011, to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. It is the only publicly accessible memorial to all 9/11 first responders located in Midtown Manhattan.
