KMT Waterjet Systems, Inc. Resolves Patent Challenge With Flow International Corporation
BAXTER SPRINGS, Kansas, Oct. 18, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- KMT Waterjet Systems, Inc. (KMT), a leading global manufacturer of ultra-high pressure waterjet pumps and related components, and who first commercialized waterjet cutting technology 40 years ago, has successfully resolved a patent infringement challenge from Flow International Corporation (Flow) on their U.S. Patent No. 6,802,541 (the 541 patent), pertaining to gasketless sealing of high pressure cylinders.
KMT management and its patent counsel strongly believe that KMT's ultra-high pressure pump sealing design does not infringe on the 541 patent. However, to eliminate the need for protracted and expensive legal proceedings, and as other equally well-functioning product designs were readily available, KMT has agreed to enter into a short-term license agreement of insignificant financial consequence.
KMT President and CEO, Kevin McManus, said "We are very pleased to have worked with Flow to bring this matter to a quick, amicable and cost-effective solution. The KMT team was very well positioned to respond to Flow's inquiries on this matter, and as a result there will be no disruption of supply of any KMT pumps or parts as a result of this agreement and implementation of the re-designed components."
