Kmart Pharmacies Across the U.S. Offer Free One Month Supply of Folic Acid to All Kmart Pharmacy Customers
Kmart supports March of Dimes(R) and continues to educate expectant mothers about healthy pregnancies
HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill., March 25 /PRNewswire/ -- Kmart continues to support the March of Dimes to raise funds to ensure that every baby gets a healthy start in life. For the past 26 years, the retailer has committed to helping educate women about healthy pregnancies, and as part of their ongoing dedication this year, Kmart pharmacies across the U.S. will provide one free month of folic acid* to all Kmart Pharmacy customers.
From Mar. 28 through May 1, customers can fill their folic acid prescription for free at their local Kmart. Folic acid is a B vitamin that helps prevent birth defects of the brain and spinal cord when taken before getting pregnant and during early pregnancy.
"It is crucial for women to have access to important vitamins like folic acid as well as eat foods that contain folate, including fortified breakfast cereals, dried beans, leafy green vegetables and orange juice," said Dr. Jennifer L. Howse, president, March of Dimes. "We appreciate Kmart's continued support in helping the March of Dimes to educate moms about healthy pregnancies to ensure that every baby gets the healthy start they deserve."
"Kmart has made children our number one cause and we are committed to helping educate women about healthy pregnancies," said Bruce Johnson, interim chief executive officer and president for Sears Holdings. "Many employees and customers in our Kmart family have personally dealt with birth defects, premature births and infant mortality, so it is important for us to do our part to help make a difference in the lives of families across the country."
In its 27th year, as March of Dimes longest standing corporate sponsor, Kmart will also support the program through in-store donations and support of local March of Dimes walks. Kmart's associate-driven, customer-supported in-store fundraising campaign, along with individual associate fundraising helped to raise $8.3 million in 2009.
"As a result of Kmart's customer and employee fund-raising efforts, we have surpassed the $80 million threshold for March of Dimes," added Johnson. "The personal commitment of so many people to giving babies in our country the greatest gift of all – a healthy start to life – is incredible."
Kmart customers can help the March of Dimes improve the health of babies by making a donation of $1, $5 or $10 at any store cash register through May 8. For more information, visit www.kmart.com/kmartforkids.http:///
*Prescription required to obtain the free folic acid of any of the offered strengths. Offer is limited to the following strengths 0.4mg, 0.8mg, and 1mg. Available quantities of 0.4mg and 0.8mg will be limited.
