Kix™ Cereal Launches New Interactive Packaging with Online Stories by Actress Soleil Moon Frye
Pop-Out Characters Inspire Creativity and Imaginative Play; Kix Continues Legacy of "Kid Tested, Mother Approved™"
MINNEAPOLIS, Sept. 25, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Parents of small children know the early morning routine can be a bit monotonous and sometimes stressful. But what if your kids could start their day as an undersea explorer or take a hike in the forest while chatting with a friendly raccoon, all while enjoying a wholesome breakfast? Actress, author and mom Soleil Moon Frye has teamed up with Kix cereal to introduce a new packaging design and creative play platform to help parents inspire learning, imagination and breakfast-time fun.
First introduced in 1937, Kix uses simple ingredients like whole grain corn to make the cereal that generations later, kids still love and moms still feel good about. To offer families today even more reasons to enjoy this wholesome product from the inside out, new Kix cereal boxes feature unique pop-out characters designed to be used with Kix Adventures™ online storybooks to bring parent and child together through creative play.
"For more than 75 years, Kix has been a staple for young families providing simple, great-tasting nutrition and from that commitment we are excited to introduce a new look and a fun way to bring parents and kids together," said Lauren Pradhan, Kix marketing manager. "To kick off the new Kix Adventures, a variety of authors have written original stories, including actress Soleil Moon Frye. Her adorable stories bring the box characters to life and will inspire young readers to use their imaginations."
In addition to the new packaging, parents can visit Kixcereal.com to read nine Kix Adventure stories, including three original pieces written exclusively by Frye, co-founder of PSXO and MoonFrye.com, and host of the OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network DIY series "Home Made Simple." Frye tapped her passion for parent and child craft activities and writing to bring the variety of colorful characters to life.
By punching out the perforated building pieces from the box, children can assemble characters and objects to create their own adventure story. Each Kix cereal flavor features a different character and environment – a goofy monkey in the jungle on Original Kix™, a curious raccoon in the woods on Honey Kix™ and a smiling octopus swimming in the ocean on Berry Berry Kix™.
"As a longtime fan of storytelling, I was so excited to get started on this project with Kix and couldn't wait to dive into writing my own stories," says Frye. "Once I saw the new packaging and activities, it was easy to create stories for Rocky the Monkey, Fletcher the Raccoon and Mazy the Octopus. I was inspired by my own kids, with my girls actually helping me come up with ideas for the stories, and the kind of moments I'd like to have with them when reading the stories, and hope that other families will be able to create the same types of memories in their homes."
The new Kix cereal boxes are available now only at Target, while Kixcereal.com houses the adventure storybook series, as well as fun craft ideas, kid-friendly recipes and creative play suggestions for parents.
