Kitchen Tools Maker GIR Stays True to Their Mission: Making Masks Great
A frontrunner in the mask market, GIR is debuting even better versions of their silicone saviors
NEW YORK, July 21, 2020 /PRNewswire/ -- On March 22, New York issued a statewide order to stay at home signaling the unofficial start of the covid crisis in America. Nine days later, silicone kitchen tools maker GIR launched their silicone mask kit to the public. The response was overwhelming; it generated extensive consumer interest, earned praise from press, and put mask donations directly in the hands of essential workers. Three months later, the company has made the product even better. GIR's new and improved 2.0 masks are launching July 19 with exciting updates, including patent-pending filters and two new size options.
When GIR's founders saw the COVID-19 crisis on the horizon, they felt the weight of the situation. Like many small business owners, they struggled with what the future would hold. But more than anything, they just wanted to help. They donated several thousand N95 masks to healthcare workers, but realized they had an untapped PPE resource at their fingertips: silicone (which is super lightweight and easy to clean). Within days, GIR's team designed their mask, sourced medical-grade filters, created packaging, and began marketing. They started shipping the first mask kits (complete with a mask, ear saver clip, and five filters) on April 15. "Looking back," says Samantha Rose, founder and CEO, "that seems like a lifetime ago. We didn't know that PPE would be here to stay."
As it turns out, wearing a mask may be the best thing Americans can do to prevent the spread of covid. So Rose went back to the drawing board, "we quickly made a good product that kept people safe, and got it into their hands in record time. But I want every product to be the very best it can be… and with this 2.0 launch, I can earnestly say that we've made it even better." GIR masks 2.0 are available in three sizes: kids, medium, and large, and come in an ever-growing array of colors. To mark the product launch, the company is simultaneously launching two new colorways for their new medium and large sizes: "Pepper," a vibrant glow-in-the-dark, and "Sergeant," a fashion-forward dark green.
GIR's new filters, however, steal the show. Recently, Rose decided to invest in dedicated filter production machinery. "We were ordering millions of filters from a supplier, but I wanted total control over fit and supply—so we made the leap. The new filters nestle perfectly and so comfortably inside the mask. And the adhesive is so strong, I've personally had it stay in place for six hours while sweating."
The company's name is their mission. They exist to get it right; to transform goodness to greatness. And that's exactly what they've done.
