Kingsborough Community College President Attends White House Summit And Makes Commitments To Expand College Opportunity For Disadvantaged Students
BROOKLYN, N.Y., Jan. 16, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- At a White House higher education summit today hosted by President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama, Kingsborough Community College President Stuart Suss made three major commitments to action on college opportunity. The summit is dedicated to launching a plan of action for increasing college opportunity for low-income and disadvantaged students. The day-long event includes remarks from President Obama, First Lady Michelle Obama, Department of Education Secretary Arne Duncan.

Kingsborough's commitments to the plan of action include the following:
- To increase the number of students who complete a college-level math course by the time they achieve 30 credits.
- To build on Kingsborough's nationally recognized Learning Community Program by designing a new Learning Community focusing on quantitative reasoning.
- To raise the pass rates of students in the developmental math course sequence.
