Kings Dominion turns "PINK" to Help Save Lives
Pink Snoopy's will be floating in the Kings Dominion fountain to represent lives touched by cancer
DOSWELL, Va., July 31, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Kings Dominion is teaming up with the Central Virginia Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for Kings Dominion for the Cure 2012. Starting on Wednesday, August 1st and continuing until Monday, September 3rd, guests can help Kings Dominion and Susan G. Komen for the Cure™ raise money that will assist in the effort to fight breast cancer.
Guests will be able to purchase special "Pink Day" tickets online at www.kingsdominion.com for only $39.99 each. $1.00 from each ticket sold will benefit the Central Virginia Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure.
"We are delighted to be working with Kings Dominion once again this year to raise awareness and provide an opportunity for park visitors to celebrate their loved ones who have been affected by cancer," said Linda Tiller, executive director of the Central Virginia Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure.
Park guests will also be able to purchase a pink Snoopy at the front gate Fast Lane kiosk. Once purchased, guests will be encouraged to toss their pink Snoopy into the Kings Dominion fountain on International Street in honor of a life touched by cancer. There will also be several other items on sale for guests to purchase, including Kings Dominion for the Cure t-shirts. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Central Virginia Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure.
Along with the pink Snoopy's, International Street will transform into a "PINK" celebration. The International flags will be replaced with pink flags and four large cancer survivor walls will be located near the Berserker, each with a personal story from a breast cancer survivor, including Debbie Chadick.
Back in 1998, Chadick discovered a lump in her breast during a self-exam. Her daughter was just nine years old. She went through surgery, chemo and radiation only to have the cancer return in 2003. Nearly a decade later, Chadick is now cancer-free. "I follow the motto of 'live life now'. Even the littlest of things mean the most to me, including spending time with my husband and my newly married daughter, Amy," Chadick said.
