Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's General Sports Authority Announces the Use of Stadiums by the Masses
WASHINGTON, Oct. 31, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- On October 31st, 2017, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's General Sports Authority announced that women will be allowed access to the country's sporting stadiums starting in 2018. The new policy—a part of Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030 social development initiatives—will begin with stadiums located in the metropolitan corridors, including Riyadh- King Fahd Stadium, Jeddah-King Abdullah City in Jeddah, and Prince Mohammed Bin Fahad Stadium in Dammam. The 2018 mark allows for preparations in these venues to take place in order to effectively implement the new policy next year.
The move is seen as another step to broaden public engagement for all members of society.
HRH Ambassador Prince Khalid Bin Salman, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's ambassador to the United States, hailed the move as another tangible step forward in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's proactive efforts to broaden women's role among Saudi society. "Allowing women in sports stadiums will broaden their public engagements in society. Soon, entire families will be able to attend events together, where they can enjoy Saudi national pastimes, such as the Kingdom's popular soccer matches."
