SAN JOSE, Calif., Oct. 11, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Kinetic Technologies (Kinetic) announced today a widening of its product portfolio by the addition of a general-purpose input/output (GPIO) expander. The new KTS1620 is a low voltage, 24-bit, I2C-bus I/O expander designed for microcontrollers when additional I/Os are needed. The KTS1620 continues Kinetic's product and market diversification while also increasing the company's reach into high-end smartphones.
"GPIO expanders provide additional I/O ports while ensuring additional interconnections are kept to a minimum," says Kinetic Vice President David Nam. "While the initial target for the KTS1620 is performance smartphones, GPIO technology is also widely used in industrial, consumer and automotive markets, allowing us to serve more customers across these industries."
The KTS1620 provides multiple ways to program the I/O ports:
- Input: Programs the polarity, latch, pull-up, pull-down, and interrupt functions.
- Output: Programs with bank/pin selectable push-pull or open-drain options. Each output stage can be also programmed to optimize rise/fall times with up to four drive strengths.
The KTS1620 meets the I2C Fast-Mode Plus spec up to 1MHz, ranging from a power supply from 1.65V to 5.5V, enabling a mixed-power system where I2C power is not compatible with I/O port power. Four adjustable I2C slave addresses are included to allow multiple KTS1620s in one I2C-bus system.
The KTS1620 is available in a Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) compliant, 36-ball, 2.6mm x 2.6mm FO-WLP66, and a 32-lead 5mm x 5mm x 0.75mm Thin-QFN package.
Key applications for the KTS1620 include laptops, desktop computers, smartphones, tablets and wearables.
The KTS1620 is available and shipping now. Visit Kinetic Technologies for more information.
