NEW YORK, Jan. 28, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, KIND®, makers of delicious and nutritious snacks, announced the creation of a separate charitable organization, The KIND Foundation, with a mission to foster communities that are healthier, more empathetic and embrace our shared humanity. The Foundation will advance this mission through activities designed to help improve the way people live, eat and relate to one another. The establishment of The KIND Foundation is the latest in a series of efforts from KIND to elevate the cause of kindness.
"Since KIND's founding days in 2004, we've recognized kindness as a transformative force for social impact – it encourages human beings to step out of their comfort zones, connect in meaningful ways and discover each other's humanity," says Daniel Lubetzky, Founder & CEO of KIND and President of The KIND Foundation. "We're hopeful that, through The KIND Foundation, we'll be able to scale our impact and ultimately make kindness more top of mind."
An inaugural philanthropic program called KIND People aims to celebrate and support individuals who embody kindness. Through the program, the Foundation is seeking stories of everyday people who have gone out of their way to help others – particularly those who are vulnerable or in need – and are positively transforming their communities. Nominations will be accepted through March 31, 2016 at www.kindsnacks.com/foundation.
Added Lubetzky, "We want to identify selfless individuals who are not looking for credit, but whose work is worth amplifying to further their impact in society, and to inspire all of us to bring more kindness into our lives."
Once the nomination period closes, the Foundation, with the help of a judging panel, will select six standout nominees who have already made a tangible impact and express intent to continue their good work. Five of the selected nominees will receive awards of $100,000, and one nominee will receive an award of half-a-million dollars. The judging panel, comprised of business and philanthropic leaders, entertainers, and civic and academic luminaries, will be announced next month. While diverse in expertise and perspective, all of the judges share a connection to kindness and recognize its unique ability to break down barriers between people.
