NEW YORK, March 30, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Maintaining its mission of philanthropy, Kiehl's Since 1851, the venerable New York-based purveyor of fine quality skin and hair care is expanding its LifeRide for the first time to support The GW Medical Faculty Associates Mobile Mammography Program – The Mammovan.
LifeRide is a charity motorcycle ride inspired by a Kiehl's icon – the motorcycle – a spirit of adventure, and philanthropic heritage. LifeRide embarked on its first journey in 2010 to raise funds and awareness for amfAR. Now, LifeRide is hitting the open road in Kiehl's LifeRide for The Mammovan, a two-day, multi-stop ride taking place March 30-31, 2016.
The Mammovan began in 1996 with the goal of making life-saving, early detection of breast cancer possible for all women throughout metropolitan Washington, regardless of their ability to pay. The mobile unit travels to corporate and community sites, offering one-stop screening performed in a comfortable, convenient environment.
"For Kiehl's, our LifeRide project has been a way of making noise – with the motorcycles, with the press, with our customers – about a cause that we passionately believe in and support," says Chris Salgardo, President, Kiehl's USA. He continues, "Breast Cancer is something that, unfortunately, touches everyone, and ever since meeting Dr. Brem, and learning about The Mammovan's work in DC, I've been looking for a way for Kiehl's to help. Expanding our LifeRide project made perfect sense."
Kiehl's LifeRide for The Mammovan will ride around the DC metro area, making stops at Kiehl's stores and select department stores with Dr. Rachel Brem, Professor and Vice-Chair and Director, Breast Imaging and Interventional Center, Department of Radiology at George Washington University.
Chris Salgardo will lead the group of riders, including actor Gilles Marini and DC restaurateur Michael Lastoria of &pizza, to each stop, where the public is invited to learn more about GW Medical Faculty Associates and The Mammovan and contribute to efforts that provide all women with access to life-saving mammography screening. Customers can also purchase a special commemorative edition of Kiehl's Midnight Recovery Concentrate, available only at these events.
The ride concludes the evening of March 31 with a finale at the Kiehl's store in Georgetown, featuring The Mammovan itself and the official announcement of Kiehl's donation of $100,000 to The Mammovan. The finale will be hosted by the DC Newsbash, a group of Washington DC's female television anchors and reporters that raises funds and awareness for breast cancer causes.
"I am delighted and extremely grateful that Kiehl's is partnering with the George Washington Mammovan," says Dr. Brem. "The generosity of Kiehl's will allow women to have free life-saving mammograms and will allow for the diagnosis of early, curable breast cancer."
