Kidsave Announces Chef Competition for Best Main Dish in DC
Local Chefs and Restaurateurs Invited to Participate in New Foodie Event
WASHINGTON, April 12, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Kidsave is searching for the best Main Dish in Washington and is calling on Washington, DC Chefs and the local food service industry to support their new foodie event and compete for the honor of being voted as Washington's Best Main Dish award winner. The event proceeds will benefit Kidsave, a not-for-profit, child advocacy organization dedicated to finding families for older children forgotten in foster care and orphanages worldwide.
Hosted by NBC4 Anchor Barbara Harrison at the Washington Post Conference Center on May 3rd, The Main Dish Event focuses on selecting the best main dish in the greater Washington, DC area. Top local chefs will be preparing their best main dishes which will be sampled by the expected 300 plus attendees.
Some of the competing restaurants already signed up include the Bartlet Pear Inn, Farrah Olivia Restaurant; The Restaurant at Patowmack Farm; Domaso Trattoria Moderna; Evo Bistro; Serendipity; Starboard; The Front Page; The MadHatter: Bethany Blues; Evo Bistro; and celebrity chef, Sammy Davis Jr. The winning chef will receive DC's Best Main Dish Award and an all-expense paid, three-day Eastern Shore getaway. Attendees will also be able to bid on one-of-a-kind silent and live auction items.

Support from events like The Main Dish will help us achieve that mission," said Terry Baugh, co-founder and president of Kidsave International. "We want to ensure that all children grow up with caring parents who can help them reach their potential."
The Main Dish for Kidsave is being sponsored by JBG Companies, 3M, STR, the Graduate Management Admission Council (GMAC), Main Event Caterers, Eats Good Media, Herron Printing, Emperor's Brand Vodka, Republic National Distributing Company, Dilmah Tea, Enjoi Cupcakes, and Honest Tea.
Kidsave helps orphans and foster children—primarily foster kids in the United States and kids in orphanages and foster care in Russia, Colombia, and Sierra Leone —find permanent homes with caring families. Kidsave's model programs connect older kids forgotten in orphanages and foster care with families who host them in their homes for weekends and school breaks, advocate for their adoption and make lasting connections for the children. Since 1997, Kidsave has helped more than 3,000 children find parents and lasting connections, trained and inspired hundreds of professionals worldwide to use family visits as a way for finding families for children who otherwise have no hope. Kidsave's goal is to give 1 million children families and connections by 2020.
May is foster care month. Kidsave's Main Dish event will shine a spotlight on the needs of children in DC who have languished in foster care and are in desperate need permanent families and mentors.
