KIDS: Still Checking Fake IDs with a Black light
WASHINGTON, Sept. 25, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- This week's testimony by the Government Accountability Office made it clear little or no progress has been made by TSA to prevent counterfeit driver's licenses from being accepted to board commercial passenger aircraft.
Testifying in front of the House Subcommittee, Jennifer Grover, Acting Director of the Homeland Security and Justice Group of GAO, stated that, "[a]s far as confirming that the identification that individuals are using is genuine, that is still the responsibility of the travel document checker at this point."
Americans should be concerned since, the Department of Homeland Security and Federal Bureau of Investigation released a joint bulletin earlier this week, noting that the recent American airstrikes in Syria "will contribute to homegrown violent extremists' …broader grievances about U.S. military intervention in predominantly Muslim lands, possibly motivating Homeland attacks."
Brian Zimmer, President of the Keeping IDentities Safe stated,
"The joint FBI DHS bulletin released this week underscores the threat to our aviation security. These terrorists are smart and they will take advantage the air travel vulnerabilities exploited by the 9/11 terrorists. Secure Flight is a great program, but airline passengers are at risk until driver's licenses are authenticated at the checkpoint. Checking IDs with a black light doesn't cut it. TSA needs high tech ID scanners to combat the proliferation of counterfeit identity documents."
