Kiddie Academy® Announces Second Annual STEM Adventures Event

ABINGDON, Md., Jan. 22, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- Kiddie Academy^® Educational Child Care, a nationally recognized provider of comprehensive educational child care programs, invites local families to participate in fun and educational activities at STEM Adventures. The free community event is designed to help children of all ages and their parents learn about science, technology, engineering and math through age-appropriate, interactive activities. The STEM events will be hosted at more than 130 select Kiddie Academy locations nationwide this winter on one of four dates: Saturday, January 26; Sunday, January 27; Saturday, February 23; or Sunday, February 24.

STEM Adventures is designed to introduce kids of all ages and their families to the world of science, technology, engineering and math education through age-appropriate and fun activities, according to Richard Peterson, vice president of education at Kiddie Academy. "We want our local families to see for themselves all the ways in which Kiddie Academy's Life Essentials^® curriculum taps into children's natural sense of wonder and discovery as they explore the laws that govern the world around them."

According to the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), exposure to STEM during early childhood is critical to establishing an optimal educational trajectory. STEM Adventures engages children in STEM concepts via active exploration by introducing participants to the scientific process through hands-on experiences and play-based activities. Kiddie Academy hopes to enable young learners to explore their curiosities and interests, while developing and testing theories in everyday situations that combine learning with fun. The event also aims to provide parents with ideas on how to bring STEM education into the home.

During the events attendees will enjoy activities associated with one of two themes: Out of This World and Fun with Machines. Children can create lunar volcanoes, make mini-constellations, experiment with a virobot scribble machine and build cardboard derby cars, among many other projects.

"STEM Adventures is a fun and interactive way to help put children on the right path to develop a lifelong love of scientific inquiry," Peterson adds. "Current research shows scientific instruction also improves abilities in subjects outside of science, including literacy, language-learning, and critical thinking, and our new program is designed to equip kids with a strong head start."
