LOUISVILLE, Ky., Aug. 26, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Because the only skin that should be extra crispy this summer is on your fried chicken, earlier this week Kentucky Fried Chicken® announced an exclusive, limited run of Extra Crispy™ fried chicken-scented sunscreen. The response from consumers was overwhelming. Initially, KFC promised 3,000 bottles to lucky consumers, but the Colonel forgot to hit the "off switch," which resulted in more than 9,000 bottles requested in about two hours, with 5,000 of those requests in the final 10 minutes.
Demand was so great, in fact, that a few people tried to capitalize on the offer by placing their bottles at online auctions with one bottle going for more than $200. But, those who missed out on the first round now have a second chance to claim a bottle of Extra Crispy Sunscreen – without the bidding war. While supplies last, on Friday, August 26, 2016, an additional 3,000 bottles are available for free to fans who visit ExtraCrispySunscreen.com and complete the request form. The sunscreen is available only to U.S. residents, and is limited to one per household (and remember, it's sunscreen – don't eat it).
"We had no idea there would be such a demand for fried chicken-scented sunscreen," said Kevin Hochman, Chief Marketing Officer for KFC U.S. "But seeing that so many Americans wanted to lounge in the sun while smelling like our hand-breaded and freshly prepared fried chicken, we decided to help them realize those dreams by making more Extra Crispy Sunscreen available."
KFC Sponsored Lens Debuts on Snapchat Saturday
As if fried chicken-scented sunscreen wasn't enough fun for one week, KFC also plans to release a sponsored Snapchat Lens on Saturday, August 27, 2016 that will allow fans to Colonel-ize themselves—glasses, bowtie, goatee, age spots and all.
"Starring as the Colonel in our advertising may be an exclusive gig, but on Saturday, anyone can be the Colonel on Snapchat," Hochman added.
Sponsored Lenses offer Snapchatters the ability to apply real-time visual effects and sounds to their selfies, allowing brands to take part in communication on the platform in the most interactive, fun, and personal way.
To activate Lenses, Snapchatters press and hold on their faces. Some Lenses include prompts like "raise your eyebrows" to trigger an animation, adding a fun twist to the experience. When a Snapchatter is finished playing, it's easy to send Lenses to a friend or post one to your Story.
