Keystone Custom Decks Selects Natural Looks of TimberTech's Legacy Collection to Boost Business Through Winter
WILMINGTON, Ohio, Dec. 1, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Keystone Custom Decks, based in Keuka Park, New York, and covering the Rochester area, successfully extends their winter deck building season by offering low maintenance products like TimberTech's Legacy Collection. Mahlon Esh, Keystone's regional manager, recommends the Legacy Collection to homeowners because it so closely resembles natural tropical hardwoods and can endure the toughest winter months. Keystone is a 30-year old, family owned business covering Southeastern/Central Pennsylvania, Southern New Jersey, Delaware, Northern Maryland and upstate New York.
For a recent deck in Rochester, Esh and his crew combined Legacy's Tigerwood with stone veneer trim for a deck that seamlessly blends into the landscape. They started by demolishing an old pressure-treated wood deck for a fresh start. "We achieved an upscale, outdoor room effect with Legacy, which has the look of interior flooring, by using hidden fasteners," says Esh. The deck sides were trimmed with a stone veneer to offset the deck's rich colors. As a bonus, using a dry space membrane system, the area under the deck was turned into a built-in shed. "The homeowners actually saved space and the cost of a new shed," added Esh.
How does a contractor build decks through the winter in upstate New York? According to Esh, "We start to push the winter build in August by offering discounts from December to February." And his company is already booking up for this year. By explaining that high performance, capped composites like TimberTech's Legacy Collection won't deteriorate over the winter; homeowners are more at ease with the idea. "We may have to shovel snow at times in order to work, but deadlines aren't as tight and homeowners don't need to use the yard like in warmer months."
Along with offering low-maintenance materials, Esh proposes deck lighting to extend a deck's usefulness after dark. "There are some attractive lighting packages that complement the beauty of capped composites," says Esh. "TimberTech provides a range of lighting choices for posts, railings, stairs, and some that set into the deck surface."
Might fall and winter deck building become the new norm in colder climates? "You definitely have to work harder in the fall to keep winter sales going," says Esh. "But today's new deck materials, like TimberTech decking, and winter discounts make off-season building a smart, economical choice for many homeowners. It definitely keeps us busy through the winter and straight into the spring building rush."
