NEW YORK, Oct. 30, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Deloitte announced today the appointment of Kenny Smith as a vice chairman of Deloitte LLP and the leader of its banking and securities practice, which provides a broad spectrum of services to each of the banks and securities firms listed on the Fortune 500 across its five world-class U.S. businesses.
Smith, a Deloitte Consulting LLP principal, has a 30-year-strong client-service background focused on advising market-leading financial institutions. He succeeds Bob Contri, a vice chairman of Deloitte LLP, who was named to the role in 2010 and retains his position as Deloitte's national financial services industry leader. Contri also spearheads a number of significant client and relationship efforts.
"The banking industry is undergoing significant change globally, including the size and complexity of institutions, a renewed focus on key markets and products, substantial new regulatory expectations and the disruption of traditional operating models," said Smith. "While many institutions have developed new playbooks, their success is going to be all about executing on those strategies. Our team of experienced professionals is well-positioned to assist our clients in transforming the industry and I am excited to be leading Deloitte's efforts on this front."
Smith assists clients with a wide variety of strategic, operational and regulatory challenges unique to the financial services industry. Since joining Deloitte in 1993, he has served in several client, marketplace and leadership positions, including as the client-facing lead to one of the Deloitte's largest, U.S.-based global banking clients. He also has served as the U.S. real estate industry leader for Deloitte Consulting LLP, the regional managing director of Deloitte's consulting practice, and was a member of the Deloitte board council from 2001 to 2003.
A Texas native, Smith earned a bachelor's degree from Texas Tech University and serves on the Rawls College of Business advisory council. He is currently based in San Francisco after working with Deloitte in Chicago and Dallas.
"Deloitte is one of the leading professional services firms in the world and I am thrilled that Kenny will bring the unique value we offer in so many different areas to our clients," said Contri. "I am confident that he will guide the practice in new and exciting directions, as the industry experiences significant changes and marketplace disruption."
