Kelley Drye Bolsters Litigation Practice with Addition of Jeffrey S. Jacobson
Class Action Team Augmented by Former Chief Counsel to New Jersey Attorney General
NEW YORK, April 4, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Kelley Drye & Warren LLP announced today that Jeffrey S. Jacobson has joined the firm as a partner in the litigation practice group. Prior to joining Kelley Drye, Mr. Jacobson served at the highest level of the New Jersey Attorney General's office, first as Director of the New Jersey Division of Law and then as Chief Counsel to the Attorney General. During his 2014-16 tenure, Mr. Jacobson oversaw law enforcement investigations involving consumer protection and data privacy, chaired the Attorney General's Cyber Working Group, and personally handled some of the State's highest-profile cases in state and federal court. Previously, Mr. Jacobson was a partner at Debevoise & Plimpton LLP, where he focused — as he will at Kelley Drye — on consumer fraud, privacy and securities litigation, and on the electronic discovery challenges presented by complex litigation and investigative matters. Mr. Jacobson will practice out of Kelley Drye's New York and New Jersey Offices.
"Jeff is an exciting addition to Kelley Drye's national litigation practice," said Robert I. Steiner, managing partner of Kelley Drye's New York office. "He has a wealth of knowledge and experience. Having litigated on both sides of the issues facing companies in high stakes matters, he brings a unique perspective to the firm that will be invaluable to our clients and which complements our existing practices."
With nearly two decades of experience in private practice before serving in the New Jersey Attorney General's Office, Mr. Jacobson has been instrumental in both the defense and prosecution of national class action cases. He helps clients resolve and minimize the reputational damage and business interruptions that can arise from litigation, including costly class actions. Mr. Jacobson has defended consumer fraud and privacy-related class actions for media, electronics, and consumer products companies, and he has defended securities class actions for U.S.-based and foreign private issuers in federal and state trial and appellate courts.
"Kelley Drye's reputation for excellence, flexibility and collaboration, and its national reach, make it the perfect fit for my practice," said Mr. Jacobson. "I look forward to working with the outstanding and creative litigation team and attorneys across the firm."
Mr. Jacobson is recommended by US Legal 500 for Data Protection and Privacy and Securities Litigation and recognized as a Securities Litigation "Star" in the IFLR Benchmark Litigation Guide. He is a member of the Association of Certified E-Discovery Specialists' Advisory Board. Mr. Jacobson is a member of the New York and New Jersey State bars.
Mr. Jacobson joins a team of nearly 100 litigators working throughout the firm's seven offices. Clients turn to Kelley Drye's litigation team for its formidable experience across a wide universe of commercial litigation areas, and the firm is listed among 24 "Highly Recommended" firms for litigation in a survey of Fortune 500 corporate counsel conducted by BTI Consulting. Kelley Drye's Consumer Class Action Defense Group is highly respected in the field, ranked by U.S. News/Best Lawyers, 2015, in both the National and New York tiers, and is on the litigation powerhouse honor roll in BTI Consulting's Litigation Outlook 2015 for Product Liability Litigation.
