KDKA, Dollar Energy Fund Host 2010 'Warmathon' to Help Spread the Warmth
February Event Will Help Pittsburghers Who Need Help Paying for Utility Services
PITTSBURGH, Feb. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- NewsRadio 1020 KDKA and Dollar Energy Fund, Inc. are teaming up for the 2010 "Warmathon," a 31-hour live broadcast from the PPG Wintergarden on February 11th & 12th. The Warmathon will support Dollar Energy Fund's Hardship Program and help low-income families maintain safe utility service.
"The current economic climate and the harsh winter weather are making many of our neighbors throughout the Pittsburgh area struggle to stay warm," said Cindy Datig, chief executive officer, Dollar Energy Fund. "Many of our elderly and working neighbors struggle to maintain safe utilities. No one should have to face a Pittsburgh winter without utility service. Our goal is to spread the warmth to more than 1400 families in the Pittsburgh area through the 2010 Warmathon."
Since 1983, Dollar Energy Fund has helped low-income families and senior citizens on fixed incomes maintain or restore utility service through smart, efficient programs including emergency assistance, payment counseling and weatherization. The 2010 NewsRadio 1020 KDKA Warmathon to benefit Dollar Energy Fund will raise funds to support the organization's Hardship Program, a utility assistance program that provides grants to low-income households. Local utilities, including Allegheny Power, Columbia Gas, Peoples Gas, Duquesne Light and Equitable Gas along with Ohio Valley General Hospital, other corporations, small businesses and volunteers are joining NewsRadio 1020 KDKA and Dollar Energy Fund in this effort. The first ever Warmathon took place in February 2009 and raised more than $250,000!
