Kazakhstan’s Delegation Participate in the 156th Session of the General Assembly of BIE

On November 26, Kazakhstan's delegation, headed by Rapil Zhoshybayev, the Commissioner of EXPO-2017 and the First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, attended the 156th General Assembly of the Bureau International d'Exposition (BIE) in Paris.

During the session, reports on preparations for Expo-2015 in Milan, Horticultural Expo Antalya-2016, Astana EXPO-2017 and Dubai Expo-2020 were heard.
In his speech, the Commissioner of EXPO-2017 reported on works carried out to attract international participants, the first visits to CIS countries and Europe, as well as on measures taken to execute Kazakhstan's obligations towards BIE. Mr. Zhoshybayev informed BIE's delegates on the results of the First Meeting of International Participants of EXPO-2017 and the First "Future Energy" Forum, held on October 22-24 this year in Astana with participation of Vicente Loscertales, the Secretary General of BIE.
Representatives of NC "Astana EXPO-2017" assured the General Assembly that it was taking all measures necessary to prepare for the Expo in 2017. Their presentation outlined the current progress of works, including the Master, Content and Communication plans for the exhibition and the activities plan of the company for the forthcoming period.
During the visit, Mr. Zhoshybayev also negotiated with Agnes Romatet-Espagne, the Head of Business and International Economy Directorate of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of France, as well as with officials of the State Agency of Tourism, on the participation of the French Republic in EXPO-2017 and how to attract French tourists to Kazakhstan.
The parties discussed hopes for the development of bilateral cooperation and the forthcoming visit of French President Francois Hollande to Astana on December 5-6.
Mr. Zhoshybayev spoke about the role France has historically played in prominent international exhibitions; and further noted that its successful experience in alternative energy sources would make a valuable contribution to the theme of EXPO-2017, which is "Future Energy".
In turn, Mrs. Romatet-Espagne expressed the French party's desire to take an active part in EXPO-2017 and stressed the readiness of domestic high-tech companies to participate and to present their best developments.
EXPO-2017 will be held during 3 months from June 10 to September 10, 2017. It is expected, that over 100 states, international organizations and leading companies in the field of alternative and renewable energy will participate in the exhibition.
