Kay® Jewelers Celebrates 19th Year of Partnering in Hope with St. Jude Children's Research Hospital® with Launch of Mother's Day Card Promotion
AKRON, Ohio, May 9, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Kay® Jewelers has proudly partnered with St. Jude Children's Research Hospital® since 1999. This year, as the company begins its 19th year in partnership with the organization, Kay has launched its annual Mother's Day card promotion. Guests can purchase a Mother's Day card, featuring art from actress, artist and philanthropist Jane Seymour, at all Kay Jewelers locations for $3. All profits, no less than $2.50 from every card sold, will be donated to St. Jude, which is leading the way the world understands, treats and defeats childhood cancer and other life-threatening diseases.
Since 1999, Kay, its Team Members and customers have raised more than $60 million to benefit St. Jude. These funds have helped to enhance the St. Jude campus, including the expansion and remodel of the St. Jude cafeteria, now known as the Kay Kafe, as well as renovations to the second floor in-patient care center and patient registration area.
The Kay initiatives have also supported important programs and extensions of the life-saving work at St. Jude. This includes the Solid Tumor Clinic and the St. Jude/Washington University Pediatric Cancer Genome Project, which resulted in the largest-ever release of comprehensive human cancer genome data for free access by the global scientific community. Another example of this important support is the introduction of the Kay Research and Care Center, ushering in a new era of research, education, collaboration, care and treatment for the kids at St. Jude.
"We are so proud to partner with St. Jude and grateful to our Team Members and customers who have helped us support this incredible organization for the past 18 years," said Katy Jones, executive vice president, store operations of Kay Jewelers. "Last year represented our largest donation to St. Jude to date and we are excited by the challenge to exceed that again this year."
St. Jude Children's Research Hospital opened its doors in 1962 with the mission that "no child should die in the dawn of life." Founded by late entertainer Danny Thomas, St. Jude specializes in the treatment of children from all over the world and no family ever pays St. Jude for anything.
Located in Memphis, Tennessee, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital revolutionized the way the world treats pediatric cancer and other deadly diseases. As one of the world's premier pediatric cancer research centers, St. Jude has developed protocols that have helped push overall survival rates for childhood cancers from less than 20 percent, when the hospital opened in 1962, to 80 percent today. St. Jude is working to drive the overall survival rate for childhood cancer to 90 percent, and St. Jude won't stop until no child dies from cancer. On average, 7,800 active patients visit the hospital each year, most of whom are treated on an outpatient basis.
