Kars4Kids Teams Up With Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation to Distribute 2,000 Children's Coats for Hurricane Sandy Relief Effort
Local Car Donation Charity Joins Forces with Largest Sandy Relief Organization to Give Away 2,000 Brand New Children's Winter Coats on Staten Island
NEW YORK, Nov. 19, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- On Thursday, November 21, Kars4Kids, the nation's leading car donation charity for the past decade, will be teaming up with the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation, an organization whose mission is to make a lasting impact on the lives of others, and local community leaders to give away 2,000 plus children's coats to those who were affected by Hurricane Sandy and in need of winter coats to help get them through the upcoming winter months. The giveaway will take place at the Tunnel to Towers relief center on Staten Island from 11AM-3PM.
The coat giveaway comes less than a month after the one year anniversary of Hurricane Sandy, one of the worst and most destructive storms to hit New York City. Many people are still recovering from the damages caused and many are still without homes. Kars4Kids and Tunnel to Towers expect to give out 2,000 plus coats at the giveaway, setting aside nearly 300 to give to other organization representatives who will come and pick up some coats to give away in their local communities to those still struggling to get back on their feet since Sandy.
A representative from New York State Senator Andrew J. Lanza's office will be on hand to help distribute coats to those who come out to the event. The coats will range in all sizes and colors from youth small up to youth extra large so that all the children who come have the opportunity to get a brand new coat in their desired color in a size that fits.
"We are very excited and fortunate to be partnering up with such an amazing organization in the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation," said Steven Weldler, spokesperson for Kars4Kids. "Tunnel to Towers is unparalleled in their post-Sandy help and we are looking forward to the opportunity to work with them and give away 2,000 plus coats to those who need, going into the winter months. To also have the support and help of local community leaders shows how much New Yorkers really do care and come together to help in times of need."
"We are equally excited to work with such a great organization as Kars4Kids," said Managing Director of Residential Reconstruction for Hurricane Sandy Relief for the Siller Foundation, Jack Oehm. "There is no better cause at this time of year to provide coats for Sandy victims. It gives us great pleasure to provide these coats for those in need. About the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation
The Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation is an organization started by the Siller family, in honor of Stephen Siller, who was a fire fighter who died heroically in the World Trade Towers on 9/11. In memory, the Siller family created this foundation with a mission to build smart homes for severely wounded service personnel coming home from the wars. When Hurricane Sandy hit, the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation spearheaded a major recovery effort by opening three relief centers in Staten Island, Brooklyn and Long Island to assist in relief efforts for those in need after the hurricane.
