DETROIT, Aug. 1, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- For the past 22 years, a group of hands-on entrepreneurs and philanthropists have been raising funds and awareness for the cutting-edge cancer research at the Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute. This group of volunteers, known as the Partners Committee, are gearing up for the 23rd Annual Partners Events: The Golf Classic on Monday, Sept. 26; and The Night on Saturday, Oct. 22. This year's Partners Honorees are longtime Karmanos supporters and community philanthropists Linda Dresner, owner of Linda Dresner, Inc.; and Ed Levy, Jr., CEO of Edw. C. Levy Co., and member of Karmanos Cancer Institute's board of directors.
"We are extremely grateful for the continued commitment of Linda Dresner and Ed. Levy, Jr., and all they do to support Karmanos and those we serve," said Gerold Bepler, M.D., Ph.D., president and CEO, Karmanos Cancer Institute. "It's a privilege to recognize them as this year's Partners honorees."
As one of only 47 National Cancer Institute-designated comprehensive cancer centers in the United States, Karmanos' physicians and scientists are relentless in their pursuit to find new targeted therapies that can result in better outcomes for cancer patients.
"Karmanos has always been a special place, known for its innovative research and compassionate patient care by a staff who treats each patient like family," said Levy. "Linda and I have experienced that compassion first-hand. We are so honored to be recognized at this year's Partners Events and truly feel fortunate to have this world-renown cancer center in our community."
Since the Partners committee began, Partners Events have raised more than $15 million to support Karmanos' exceptional state-of-the science cancer research. This year's events will continue that tradition. The Partners Golf Classic will be held at the beautiful Franklin Hills Country Club and include an 18-hole competitive scramble and golf cart, breakfast, barbeque lunch, refreshments and an awards dinner. Awards will be presented to the lowest scoring Men's, Women's, Mixed and Pro-Am teams. This offers a fun day of golf for Partners' Sponsors. Space is limited. Due to high demand, golf foursomes are sold exclusively through sponsorships.
Partners Night will be an exciting, unique experience including a strolling cocktail reception and dinner, raffle and live entertainment. In addition, the event will feature a fashion show presented by Linda Dresner titled WO-MAN: A celebration of the independent woman. Partners Night takes place at Russell Industrial Center in Detroit.
Pre-registration is required. For sponsorship opportunities or more information about Partners Golf Classic or Partners Night, call 313-576-8108, email [email protected] or visit www.karmanos.org/partners.

How Partners Started
Karmanos Cancer Institute long-time supporters, Anna and Harry Korman, had the vision to begin Partners in memory of their late daughter, Suzanne, who died of cancer at the age of 36. The Korman's established the committee as a way to engage young people in raising money for cancer research, knowing that research would lead to advancements in treatment options and early detection methods.
For the past 22 years, the Partners Committee has continued the Korman's legacy. The Partners are united in the fight against cancer and are dedicated to solely raising funds for research at Karmanos Cancer Institute through the signature two-part fundraiser known as the Annual Partners Events.
"We're incredibly grateful for the ongoing generosity of the Partners Committee and the many patrons who support the Partners Events," said Dr. Bepler. "To have such a caring group of individuals engaged in raising funds to help advance cancer research at Karmanos is truly gratifying and helps us continue our mission to eradicate this disease. We welcome everyone to join us at this year's Partners Events."
About the Partners
The Partners are a group of hardworking and "hands-on" volunteers who have pooled their ideas and resources and joined together for the sole purpose of raising funds for the Karmanos Cancer Institute. Many of these dedicated volunteers are motivated by their own personal struggles or those of loved ones battling this disease. The Partners are dedicated to making sure that other families, who are facing this illness, always have a place to turn where they will receive the ultimate in patient care, education and treatment.
