SALT LAKE CITY, March 27, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Sci-Fi / Fantasy movie tough guy Karl Urban is joining Comic Con legend William Shatner and over 40 other celebrities to take Salt Lake Comic Con (http://saltlakecomiccon.com/) FanXperience (FanX) to where no man has gone before on April 17-19, 2014 at the Salt Palace Convention Center in downtown Salt Lake City, Utah.
Urban is best known for his roles as Eomer in The Lord of the Rings trilogy, in the new Star Trek reboot and sequel Star Trek Into Darkness in the role of Dr. Leonard "Bones" McCoy, Cupid and Julius Caesar in Xena: Warrior Princess, Vaako in Chronicles of Riddick and Riddick, Judge Dredd in Dredd and Kirill in The Bourne Supremacy. Most recently he starred in the TV series Almost Human.
"Karl has been so prolific in his career that he's got a broad fan base and his work appeals to a wide range of fans," said Dan Farr, Salt Lake Comic Con Show Producer. "We're thrilled to have Karl join us. The buzz around his appearance is out and fans are ecstatic about him attending our show."
Shatner, the original Captain Kirk from the Star Trek series will make an encore appearance to Salt Lake City. He'll be signing autographs on Thursday, April 17, 2014 and will moderate a panel event with the cast of Star Trek: The Next Generation.
With Urban and Shatner, Salt Lake Comic Con FanX will have three generations of Star Trek movies and characters represented, including: Shatner from Star Trek, Brent Spiner, Jonathan Frakes, Michael Dorn, Denise Crosby, Marina Sirtis and Gates McFadden from Star Trek: The Next Generation and Urban with Star Trek Into Darkness.
"I think the Star Trek: The Next Generation Ultimate Xperience™ panel will be a special treat and a lot of fun for Trekkies and fans of all genres," continued Farr. "We've had a lot of fan feedback about bringing William back again and he is so beloved and such a pop culture icon that this will be a great way to kick off FanX."
Salt Lake Comic Con FanX is expected to draw more than 100,000 attendees, which would shatter the record for the largest convention in Utah that was set in September 2013 by the inaugural Salt Lake Comic Con.
"With 22 days until the opening of FanX there is still time to get tickets," said Bryan Brandenburg, Salt Lake Comic Con Co-Founder and VP of Marketing. "Karl and William are huge wins for fans and will be big draws, but we're not done announcing guests. Sometimes the best is yet to be."
