BRENTWOOD, Tenn., Sept. 23, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Corizon Health, the industry-leading provider of correctional health care services, today announced that its Board of Directors has appointed Karey Witty as the company's chief executive officer, effective November 2, 2015. He succeeds Woodrow A. Myers Jr. MD, who will assume the newly created role of vice chair of the board of directors and serve as a consultant to the company, responsible for a range of clinical strategies and continuing our legacy as a physician-led company.
The new leadership structure will ensure continued innovation in clinical excellence and approaches that deliver cost efficiencies to its customers and the taxpayers they serve.
Mr. Witty brings a significant breadth of experience in health care operations, finance, and strategic planning, and has a deep understanding of the correctional health care industry and its increasing connection to the broader continuum of care. He has been a member of the Corizon Health board of directors since 2011, and served as CFO of Correctional Medical Services prior to the merger that formed Corizon Health. Most recently, he served as CFO of Nashville, TN-based NaviHealth, Inc., as well as CFO of HealthSpring, Inc., also headquartered in Nashville.
"I appreciate the board's faith in me to take on this additional role with Corizon Health," said Mr. Witty. "I look forward to the opportunity to continue working with Dr. Myers, the other members of the Board, and all of our dedicated employees to drive Corizon Health's continued success and growth."
Correctional health care is a dynamic field, and Corizon Health will continue to evolve its structure to drive the industry forward and deliver maximum value to its customers and patients. These important leadership changes are designed to further Corizon Health's commitment to forward-thinking growth and innovation.
Dr. Myers' external focus will continue his important work positioning Corizon Health as the leader in a unique segment of the health care ecosystem; one with distinct challenges but also valuable opportunities to address issues of community health, addiction and recidivism.
"It has been a privilege to lead Corizon Health for the past two years. This new position will allow me to build on the work I have already done and focus on those areas I've dedicated my career to advancing," said Dr. Myers. "Karey has been an incredible partner on the Board and is the right person to propel our momentum forward."
During his tenure as CEO, Dr. Myers led the company through expanding the Corizon Health brand to more fully represent its clinical expertise; greatly increased its IT infrastructure, strengthened its security and technology platforms for future growth; and restructured PharmaCorr, the company's pharmacy arm, to streamline processes and increase efficiencies.
