"We are excited that Dr. Giannulli is joining the Kareo team and the timing is perfect as we expand our suite of small practice solutions to include a new electronic health record application," said Dan Rodrigues, founder and CEO of Kareo. "Dr. Giannulli is a recognized EHR pioneer and his insights, expertise, and leadership have enabled us to bring to market a world-class EHR product. With his wealth of experience, as a physician, entrepreneur, and technologist, Dr. Giannulli will help us deliver intuitive, mobile, high-value solutions to our customers."
Dr. Giannulli brings a unique blend of experience and insight as a physician and healthcare technology entrepreneur. Over the past decade, he has developed innovative electronic health record technologies and deployed those applications on new platforms (Apple Newton, client/server Windows, iPhone and iPad) to meet the evolving needs of physicians and demands for greater mobility. Dr. Giannulli maintains close contact with the medical community and has firsthand experience in addressing the challenges facing the small practice. These insights help deliver technologies that are smarter by design and more effectively meet the needs of Kareo's customers.
Prior to joining Kareo, Dr. Giannulli was CMIO at Epocrates, where he served as the lead clinical representative for the company and its products. Dr. Giannulli helped drive the company's efforts to extend its core product portfolio, including the development of Epocrates' electronic health record application that was Meaningful Use certified and featured a native iPad application.
Previously, Dr. Giannulli served as founder and CEO of Caretools, an early-stage software company that introduced the first iPhone based EHR and was later acquired by Epocrates in 2009. Earlier in his career, he served as founder and CEO for Health Scan, VP of Advanced Research for Data Critical, and the founder and CEO of Physix.
"Kareo has a very thorough understanding of the small medical practice and a proven track record of delivering products and services to meet the specific needs of those organizations. As a physician, I applaud this focus on such a vital part of the patient care continuum," said Giannulli. "I have dedicated much of my career to leveraging the latest technologies to create intuitive, intelligent, mobile EHR solutions. Joining forces with Kareo was the obvious choice for bringing this new EHR to the market. Kareo's ability to offer the EHR at no cost will enable many more small practices to take an important step forward in the adoption of electronic health records."
Dr. Giannulli will demonstrate the Kareo EHR at the HIMSS conference in March in New Orleans. The presentation will take place at the Mobile Health Knowledge Center on the exhibit floor (booth # 8247 Kiosk # 26) on Monday, March 4 at 3:30pm.
