Karen W. Scheffler Joins Olshan as Partner in the Employee Benefits Practice
NEW YORK, Jan. 26, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Olshan Frome Wolosky LLP announced today that Karen W. Scheffler has joined the firm as partner in the firm's Employee Benefits practice.

Karen's practice is focused on advising clients with respect to issues that affect employee benefits and compensation programs, including the design and operation of tax-qualified retirement plans, welfare benefit plans, non-qualified deferred compensation plans, equity compensation plans and other incentive plans. She provides counsel on the design and implementation of stock-based compensation plans including stock options, restricted and phantom stock and stock appreciation rights.
Karen also advises on employee benefits and compensation issues that arise in the context of mergers and other acquisitions, dispositions and initial public offerings. She frequently counsels clients regarding all aspects of ERISA affecting the investment management of employee benefit plan assets, including "plan assets" regulations, fiduciary duties, prohibited transaction rules and prohibited transaction exemptions, reporting and disclosure requirements, and Department of Labor audits.

Karen joins Olshan from Troutman Sanders where she was of counsel in the Employee Benefits and Executive Compensation Group. Prior to that, she held positions at Lowenstein Sandler PC (counsel), Deloitte Tax, LP, Deloitte and Touche, LP and the U.S. Department of Labor, Employee Benefits Security Administration.
Karen is a frequent speaker at industry conferences and events. She received her J.D. from Hofstra University where she was an associate editor of the Hofstra Property Law Journal and received her B.A. from the University of California, Los Angeles. She is admitted to practice in New York and New Jersey.
