NEW YORK, March 14, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- SiriusXM announced today that Stephen A. Smith, who has long been one of sports media's most provocative personalities, will sit down for an in-depth Q&A with SiriusXM host Karen Hunter in front of an audience of SiriusXM listeners for the SiriusXM "Town Hall" series in New York City.
Smith, host of both The Stephen A. Smith Show on SiriusXM's Mad Dog Sports Radio channel and ESPN's First Take, will talk in depth about his career and the path that led him to become one of America's more polarizing television and radio personalities. Hunter will ask Smith about his penchant for engaging his audience on the compelling issues both in the world of sports and society at large, and his thought-provoking, and sometimes controversial perspectives on both.
An intimate in-studio audience of SiriusXM listeners will have the opportunity to engage Smith in a discussion on the hot-button topics including racism, sexism, abuse, and the role media plays in sports today.
"Stephen A. always elicits a wide range of emotions from his audience because he's willing to dive into topics many others in sports media avoid," said Scott Greenstein, President and Chief Content Officer, SiriusXM. "His conversation with Karen will give SiriusXM listeners a unique look at the man behind the mic, and it will give Stephen A. the opportunity to speak in depth about both his career and his perspectives on sports, media and bigger cultural issues."
"Words truly can't express how excited I am to be doing this town hall. Especially with Karen Hunter -- a 'Big Sister' to me, and one of my dearest friends for the past 25 years and counting," says Smith. "I've never feared saying what I feel -- and why -- for the past 25 years, and I damn sure don't intend to be shy now. All I can say is 'Be Ready.' I can promise you I'll be."
"I am thrilled to have the opportunity to sit down and talk with my friend and colleague, Stephen A. Smith, about everything from race to politics and everything in between," said Karen Hunter.
Hosted by Karen Hunter, "SiriusXM's Town Hall with Stephen A. Smith: The State of Sports, Media and Culture Today" will air nationwide on March 18, 2016 at 12:00 pm ET on Urban View channel 126 and through the SiriusXM App on smartphones and other connected devices, as well as online at siriusxm.com. Smith is a featured commentator on ESPN2's First Take and makes appearances on SportsCenter and other ESPN television shows. He has been a reporter for the Winston-Salem Journal, where he started his print career, Greensboro News and Record and New York Daily News and he held several positions – from NBA reporter to general sports columnist - over 16 years with The Philadelphia Inquirer. Smith was raised in Queens, New York. He attended Winston-Salem State University in North Carolina, where he played basketball for Hall of Fame coach Clarence Gaines and wrote for the university newspaper, The News Argus.
