Kansas City Barbeque Society Foundation approved for 501c3 status
KCBS Foundation contributed $55,000 to charitable organizations in 2014
NASHVILLE, Tenn., Jan. 6, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- The Kansas City Barbeque Society (KCBS) Foundation announced today its newly obtained status as a 501c3 entity. This status will allow the expansion of KCBS' charitable efforts, which have always been a part of its non-profit mission of supporting and contributing to likeminded organizations.
As the largest competition barbeque sanctioning body, KCBS puts an additional emphasis on efforts to give back to the various communities it is involved in and supports. In 2014, KCBS awarded $55,000 to college-bound students, many of whom will be pursuing culinary professions, as well as other charitable organizations like Kookers Kare, who provide freshly cooked foods, as well as non-perishable food items to food banks.
"KCBS already does a lot of work with charitable contributions," said Mark Simmons, president of KCBS. "The move to a 501c3 status now allows our 20,000 members not only to donate, but to receive a tax deduction, and ultimately, helping us to further what we're able to do."
In May of 2014, KCBS launched its "100KCBS Meals Mission," aiming to donate 100,000 meals within a year's time. In order to reach the goal, KCBS purchased meat for competition barbeque teams to cook during approved events that would then be donated to local food banks. Having hit its goal five months ahead of schedule, and under budget, KCBS is now aiming to take a more aggressive approach to create an even greater impact in 2015.
"It's numbers like these that really show the heart and humanity of our cookers and members," said Simmons.
One hundred percent of all contributions made to the KCBS Foundation go directly to charitable organizations. All administrative costs are covered by KCBS.
Members and non-members of KCBS are encouraged to share in KCBS' charitable efforts. To make a tax-deductible donation, please contact the office at 1-800-963-5227.
