Kansas City Area Development Council Ranked a Top 10 Economic Development Organization by Site Selection Magazine
Article hails Google Fiber's selection of Kansas City out of 1,100 cities nationwide
KANSAS CITY, Mo., May 15, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Site Selection magazine named the Kansas City Area Development Council (KCADC) among the ten Top Economic Development Groups of 2011, based on the region's capital investments and jobs created last year.
The article emphasizes Google's selection of Kansas City, Kan., and Kansas City, Mo., out of 1,100 cities across the country for its first high-speed data service, Google Fiber, estimated to be a half billion dollar investment.
Projects led by area developers, private companies, municipalities and philanthropists that contributed to the ranking include Kansas City's new $413 million Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts, a $1 billion expansion of Ford's manufacturing plant, the 18,467-seat LIVESTRONG Sporting Park and the 100,000-square-foot Hollywood Casino at Kansas Speedway.
"It was clearly one of our best years ever," says Bob Marcusse, CEO of the KCADC, which represents a bi-state, 18-county region. "We are proud of our regional economic development program and are even more proud of our partnership with our KCADC investors and economic development partners across the entire metro."
Last year, KCADC worked with companies across a range of industries, including Mars Inc., Dex One Corporation, Ceva Sante Animale and AH Industries to bring more than 2,000 new jobs and $800 million in capital investment to the region.
