Kaiser Permanente of the Mid-Atlantic States Receives Highest National Rating From NCQA - 5.0 out of 5.0 - for Commercial and Medicare Plans
Regional Care and Coverage Provider Ranks in Top 3% of all U.S. Health Plans
ROCKVILLE, Md., Sept. 18, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Kaiser Permanente of the Mid-Atlantic States (KPMAS) is one of only two health plans in the nation to score 5 out of 5 in both Private (commercial) and Medicare plans, as well as the only plan in the Mid-Atlantic region to receive a score of 5 in both categories. A 5 rating places the organization among the top 3% of Private (commercial) and Medicare health plans nationwide.
The ratings were published this week by the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) in the Health Insurance Plan Ratings 2015-16 report. NCQA is recognized as the national leader in health care performance measurement and rates more than 1,000 health plans nationally each year, including Medicare, Medicaid and Private (commercial).
"We are extremely proud to receive an overall 5.0 out of 5.0 rating for our commercial and Medicare health plans," says Kim Horn, president of Kaiser Foundation Health Plan of the Mid-Atlantic States. "These ratings really showcase the unparalleled work of our thousands of health care professionals supporting population health management, women's health, cancer screenings, and pediatric care, to name a few."
"More than 1,200 talented and dedicated physicians work tirelessly to make these ratings possible," said Bernadette Loftus, MD, associate executive director Permanente Medical Group. "This acknowledgement from NCQA is yet another testament to our exceptional approach to prevention, care and what members can expect from Kaiser Permanente."
The "NCQA Health Insurance Plan Ratings" are based on combined scores for health plans in the Healthcare Effectiveness Data and Information Set®, commonly called HEDIS; the Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems®, or CAHPS; and NCQA Accreditation standards scores.
The ratings and methodology are posted on the NCQA's website at www.ncqa.org and on the Consumer Reports website. The ratings and an article about health plans will appear in the November issue of Consumer Reports magazine.
