OAKLAND, Calif., April 24, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Kaiser Permanente has been ranked No. 2 on the 15th annual DiversityInc Top 50 Companies for Diversity list. This year's rankings were announced before a gathering of more than 900 attendees last evening in New York City. More than 1,000 public and privately held companies around the country competed for spots on the coveted list. Kaiser Permanente was the only health care organization to make the top 10.
This is the seventh year in a row that Kaiser Permanente has appeared among the Top 10 in the magazine's national rankings.
"Kaiser Permanente is recognized for its diversity and inclusion because many of our people have exercised their freedom of speech over the years to raise issues, share insights and ask for understanding," said Chairman and CEO Bernard J. Tyson. "Diverse groups of people have offered their perspectives on topics that may have been uncomfortable for some to discuss at the time, but they ultimately have helped shape how we as an organization value and appreciate the diversity of our employees."
"We are proud that DiversityInc has once again recognized Kaiser Permanente's leadership role in driving diversity and inclusion as a moral imperative and business strategy," said Ronald L. Copeland, MD, FACS, senior vice president, National Diversity and Inclusion Strategy and Policy, and chief diversity and inclusion officer at Kaiser Permanente. "The times demand that we strengthen our enduring commitment to inclusion and amplify our voice in order to inspire a nation to secure health care affordability and equity for all communities."
The rankings are determined by an objective methodology that takes into account such factors as talent pipeline, equitable talent development (including commitments to mentorship and philanthropy), CEO/leadership commitment and supplier diversity. The empirical data for the rankings is provided by a 338-question survey filled out by employees at the participating companies.
"Kaiser Permanente recognizes that a truly inclusive culture means inclusive leadership at all levels," said Luke Visconti, CEO at DiversityInc. "Chairman and CEO Bernard Tyson and Chief Diversity & Inclusion Officer Dr. Ronald Copeland lead a constantly improving effort that has kept this organization at the top of this list for the past five years."
DiversityInc also announced a number of Specialty Lists, all of which can be viewed in their entirety at www.DiversityInc.com. Kaiser Permanente also ranked:
