OAKLAND, Calif., Dec. 5, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- For the 11th consecutive year, Kaiser Permanente, the nation's largest integrated health system, has achieved a top score on the Corporate Equality Index, a national benchmarking survey and report on corporate policies and practices related to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender workplace equality. Kaiser Permanente earned a 100 percent score in the 2017 survey, which is administered by the Human Rights Campaign Foundation.
"It is extremely gratifying to be recognized once again by the Human Rights Campaign Foundation for our industry-leading work in ensuring our workforce is representative of all the members, patients and communities we serve — no matter their gender, gender identity, or sexual orientation," said Ronald L. Copeland, MD, FACS, senior vice president and chief diversity and inclusion officer. "Our commitment to diversity and inclusion is fueled by our foundational belief in the right to equity for all people — without exception. This commitment has been with Kaiser Permanente from our beginning, and is integrated into our strategic priorities and reflected in everything we do."
The HRC is America's largest civil rights organization working to achieve lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer equality. By inspiring and engaging all Americans, the organization strives to end discrimination against LGBT citizens and realize a nation that achieves fundamental fairness and equality for all.
Now in its 15th year, the 2017 Corporate Equality Index report rated 1,043 businesses on their LGBT-related policies and practices, including non-discrimination workplace protections, domestic-partner benefits, transgender-inclusive health care benefits, competency programs, and public engagement with the LGBT community. Kaiser Permanente's efforts in satisfying all of the criteria resulted in a 100 percent score and the designation as a Best Place to Work for LGBT Equality.
The HRC also recognized Kaiser Permanente earlier this year for its efforts around health care equality. All 38 of Kaiser Permanente's hospitals across the country achieved leadership status for their commitment to equitable, inclusive care for LGBT patients and their families in the HRC's Healthcare Equality Index 2016 report.
