SEATTLE, Sept. 20, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Reflective of Kaiser Permanente Washington's value proposition to offer highly specialized, world class medical care in state of the art facilities, the organization today announced that it has earmarked $400 million to renovate and redesign its full Capitol Hill flagship campus by 2022, and invest in the near-term launch of new medical clinic sites throughout the region.
"We are so pleased to announce these bold investments to expand access to our nationally proven medical excellence to even more people in the state of Washington," said Susan Mullaney, president, Kaiser Permanente Washington. "Despite already offering statewide specialty, primary and ambulatory care sites, Kaiser Permanente plans to open even more locations soon, including a brand new medical center in Burien this November."
As part of the Capitol Hill renovation and redesign, Kaiser Permanente will be working with the city of Seattle, King County, members, customers, community partners and its workforce to create a shared vision that meets individual and community health needs. Through the planning process, Kaiser Permanente will maintain care and services for tens of thousands of its members on its Capitol Hill campus.
"As a major employer and public health provider, I applaud Kaiser Permanente's commitment to improving access to world-class healthcare services in our growing region," said King County Executive Dow Constantine. "The redesigned Capitol Hill campus and new medical clinics will improve the health of people throughout King County, including our employees and their family members."
In addition, Kaiser Permanente members in the Central Sound will experience the opening of the new Kaiser Permanente Burien Medical Center later this fall. The facility will feature the latest technology and equipment, nationally -recognized physicians, and an exceptional service experience.
"Our focus is on delivering the highest quality care where, how, and when our members want it. We will do this by adding new clinic sites and continuing to be a leader in Washington in providing virtual care visits and convenience to our patients," said Stephen Tarnoff, MD, president and chief medical executive, Washington Permanente Medical Group. "We will make it easier than ever for Kaiser Permanente members and patients to access their care and coverage information using convenient and secure virtual tools."
Additionally, beginning in January 2018, Kaiser Permanente members will experience improvements in online care through tools such as the organization's website and mobile app. There will be new features, as well as improved existing capabilities, such as doctor selection and appointment scheduling. These improvements are a direct response to customers' desires for a more seamless experience, expanding access to care from hundreds of specialists in more than 60 specialties and sub-specialties.
"We believe our investment decisions demonstrate that Kaiser Permanente is here, we're committed to Washington, and we're focused on keeping health care simple and convenient for our members and customers so they can thrive," said Mullaney.
