WASHINGTON, Nov. 20, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Chairman and CEO Bernard J. Tyson will join Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Sylvia M. Burwell, and other health care leaders today for the HHS Pharmaceutical Forum: Innovation, Access, Affordability and Better Health Summit.
Tyson will be featured as part of a panel on value-based and outcomes-based purchasing programs, focused on identifying challenges and opportunities around the rising costs of prescription drugs. Specifically, he will suggest ways we can incentivize innovation while also delivering on affordability. Tyson previously published thoughts on the topic in an op-ed featured on Forbes.
"The current trend of rising drug prices is unsustainable and a threat to health care affordability and accessibility," Tyson said. "This is a complex problem that requires every part of the industry to work towards an affordable solution. We commend Secretary Burwell for her work on this critical issue and appreciate the opportunity to address affordability together on our path towards finding a solution to untenable cost trends."
The forum will convene many interested parties, including consumers, providers, employers, manufacturers, insurers, representatives from state and federal government, and other stakeholders to share information and discuss ideas to increase access to information, drive innovation, strengthen incentives and promote competition.
