Kaiser Foundation Hospital And Health Plan Begin Search
Board of Directors launches search for George Halvorson's successor
OAKLAND, Calif., Oct. 12, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Kaiser Permanente announced today that it has selected an executive recruitment firm to conduct the search for chairman and chief executive officer of the organization. The search is to find the permanent successor to chairman and CEO, George Halvorson, who last week announced his plans to retire at the end of 2013.
"George is a highly effective chairman and CEO, and it will not be easy to fill his shoes," said Kim J. Kaiser, Kaiser Foundation Hospitals and Health Plan board member. "Within Kaiser Permanente, we are fortunate to have skilled and talented leaders. To ensure we cast a wide net, we will engage in a nationwide search to select a new chairman and CEO."
The bylaws of the organization require that the board of directors select the chairman and CEO of the board for Kaiser Foundation Hospitals and Kaiser Foundation Health Plan. Judith Johansen, JD, board member since 2006, will chair the process.
"Kaiser Permanente has accomplished amazing things due in great part to George Halvorson's vision and leadership," said Thomas W. Chapman, MPH, EdD, Kaiser Foundation Hospitals and Health Plan board member since 1994. "As we search for a new chairman and CEO, we will be looking for someone who has the skills and experience to manage a large health care organization, including both the health plan and care delivery system. We also are looking for someone with the experience and vision to lead the organization through what will continue to be an evolving health care environment."
Questions about the search should be directed to Tom Giella at Korn/Ferry International.
