OAKLAND, Calif., Sept. 16, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Chairman and CEO Bernard J. Tyson announced today that Richard (Dick) Daniels will assume the role of interim chief information officer (CIO) for Kaiser Foundation Hospitals and Health Plan, Inc., effective immediately.
"Kaiser Permanente is a recognized leader in developing and implementing technological advancements that advance the high-quality care and service we provide to our 9.5 million members," Tyson said. "Dick Daniels has extensive experience in information technology. I am confident that he will assume leadership of this important role for Kaiser Permanente and continue our focus on making the health care and coverage we provide more connected, more convenient and more accessible for our members and customers."
Daniels has more than 30 years of experience in information technology. He is currently senior vice president of enterprise shared services for Kaiser Permanente, which includes oversight of end user services, national facilities services, and national pharmacy operations. Prior to that, he served as senior vice president of Kaiser Permanente's information technology for health plan and hospital operations. He has also served in global IT leadership roles at JPMorgan Chase and Capital One.
"I have always been proud to work for Kaiser Permanente, and I look forward to continuing our tradition of our leadership in technology to meet the needs of Kaiser Permanente and our members and patients," said Daniels. "I am excited to rejoin our team of strong IT leaders to help fulfill our obligations to the communities we serve — both by delivering the technologies needed today, as well as envisioning the future of health care."
Daniels replaces Philip Fasano, who announced last week that he is leaving the organization.
Kaiser Permanente will conduct a national search to fill the CIO position.
