Kabam Releases Wartune: Hall Of Heroes In Western Markets, Breaking New Ground In Mobile Gaming
Fully-featured role playing game to launch on the App Store and Google Play
SAN FRANCISCO, June 26, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Kabam, the world leader in free-to-play core games, announces today the availability of Wartune: Hall of Heroes, a massively multiplayer online roleplaying game for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch and Google Play mobile devices and tablets. Wartune: Hall of Heroes pushes the performance envelope with its uniquely deep and compelling storyline that's interwoven with the game's natural progression. Players are immediately immersed in a fantasy world where hundreds of players can fight together simultaneously to defeat enemies and monsters, quest for more territory, farm and fortify holdings, and collect magical stones to enhance the armor and weapons of their hero.
Wartune: Hall of Heroes, which quickly became a top 10 grossing app shortly after it launched in China, offers far more play modes than typically seen in smartphone- and tablet-based games. The smash hit allows users to play solo campaign mode, or join with other players in PVP ranging from three-person squads up to 30-member guild battles. As Wartune: Hall of Heroes launches today, a range of possible gaming experiences previously seen only with PC- or console-based games, arrives on mobile.
"Kabam is unique among the world's mobile games companies in our ability to identify hit games in Asia that we adapt and make popular in Western markets," said Kabam Publishing President Amit Ranade. "We expect Wartune: Hall of Heroes to be as significant a hit internationally as it has been in China."
"At Hoolai Games, we have always been passionate about creating and developing quality, engaging games – no matter what platform it's for," said Xiang Lin, VP of International Business Development at Hoolai Games, the cross-platform developer and publisher of multiplayer games for the web, social and mobile. "Wartune: Hall of Heroes introduces a new experience that finally brings the scale of traditional PC-based strategy RPG gaming onto mobile. We are excited for the reception of the international audience and remain committed to pushing the technological limits of game creation."
Wartune: Hall of Heroes creates an elaborate fantasy world where Knights, Mages and Archers do battle against the forces of evil. One of the top-grossing games in China, it was jointly developed by 7Road and Hoolai of Beijing, and is being licensed in connection with Kabam's $50 million development fund to introduce popular games from Asia to gamers in other parts of the world. Kabam was chosen to bring Wartune: Hall of Heroes to mobile devices because the company's proven track record as a successful publisher of free-to-play titles.
Kabam has experienced massive growth since its founding as a games company a little more than four years ago. The company now has more than 800 employees in offices throughout North America, Europe and Asia. Kabam generated more than $360 million in revenue in 2013, a 100 percent growth over 2012, and predicts $550 million in revenue in 2014.
Available entirely for free, Wartune: Hall of Heroes players can unlock epic gear and level up their hero by reaching game milestones, or via in-app purchases to expedite their progression. Originally developed for the PC, Wartune: Hall of Heroes has been available for two years at Kabam.com for web-based players, and has been a popular title, generating $30 million a month in total revenue.
As a lead-up to its mobile release, the game has been significantly retooled for mobile platforms, a months-long effort that saw Kabam collaborating directly with their counterparts in China. Their goal was to ensure that Wartune: Hall of Heroes mobile players have the same experience as those using laptop or desktop computers, an effort that required reworking the user interface to replace keyboard controls and mouse clicks with swipes and gestures that are native to mobile devices.
