Kabam Gets Medieval with Strategy Wargame, Kings of the Realm, on the App Store
Kings of the Realm for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch to Feature Exclusive 'Maerwyn' Commander to Help Players Win Battles
SAN FRANCISCO, Sept. 4, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Kabam, the leader in the western world for free-to-play core games for traditional players, today announced the launch of Kings of the Realm for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch, a medieval-themed massively multiplayer strategy war game, available worldwide on the App Store.
Kings of the Realm for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch will include an exclusive commander, "Maerwyn," who players can turn to for help in winning their campaigns against the orcs and other players who populate the Kings of the Realm fantasy world.
Like all Kabam games, Kings of the Realm is free-to-play and players can build a realistic city and amass mighty armies by military conquest. They can also join forces with other players in alliances to capture shrines, repel enemies, and eventually become King.
Kings of the Realm is the first title developed by Digit Game Studios, a 20-person game development studio in Dublin, Ireland.
"Kabam publishing actively looks to partner with the best development teams worldwide, and we've found a great partnership with Digit," said Amit Ranade, President of Distribution at Kabam. "Their compelling design and visionary tech complement Kabam's strengths in monetization and marketing."
"We are thrilled to be working in partnership with Kabam to bring our real-time fantasy war game to a global audience," said Richard Barnwell, CEO, Digit Game Studio.
Kings of the Realm features a richly-detailed medieval world, one in which players deploy up to six commanders on a real-time world map. Armies are made up of 21 different troop types, from brave militia to deadly Shining Lance, and ultimately fantastic beasts such as gryphons. Each army has unique equipment loadouts from more than 400 skills and is led by one of 15 unlockable commanders. Players raid resources to fortify their own city, from a humble village to a mighty citadel. Alliances, capturable shrines, tournaments, and more keep the action fast-paced.
The game launches together with a book published by Penguin and written by noted author Oisin McGann. "Kings of the Realm: Cruel Salvation" is the second book in a series that delves into the characters and rich lore of a world in conflict. Gamers can immerse themselves in the complex personal struggles of the heroes in the book, while readers can forge their own destiny in the living world of the game. Designed with close collaboration between the writer and the developers, the interplay between books and game forges new ground in immersive entertainment.
The game was released for testing in Canada, Denmark and Sweden, and proved immensely popular on account of its graphics, strategy and fast-paced action.
Kings of the Realm is available for free from the App Store on iPhone, iPad and iPod touch or at www.AppStore.com.
