K2 Paint For Peaks and Bumps Challenge Events at Taos Ski Valley to Raise Tens of Thousands for Women's Health
TAOS, N.M., Feb. 13, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- On February 21 Taos Ski Valley will once again host the exciting skiing and snowboarding marathon for a good cause, the K2 Bumps Challenge, coupled with its annual Paint for Peaks fundraiser, which raise tens of thousands of dollars annually for women's health support and research.
The fourth annual Bumps Challenge and the sixth annual Paint for Peaks events are part of the ski valley's annual Breast Cancer Awareness day to benefit Boarding for Breast Cancer (B4BC) and the Anita Salas Memorial Fund. Last year $30,000 was raised by the daylong event.
The K2 Bumps Challenge is a fun and challenging marathon down the infamous Al's Run – one of Taos Ski Valley's most popular mogul runs on the front face of the mountain. Individuals and teams of two have four hours to make it down the run as many times as possible, with more points awarded for each lap. Costumes earn bonus runs, and K2 and Taos Ski Valley offer a range of valuable prizes. To register for the Bumps Challenge visit www.paintforpeaks.com.
After the on-mountain Bumps Challenge, skiers, boarders and visitors can gather in the Martini Tree Bar for the awards ceremony and an unrivaled art exhibit.
Entering its sixth year of success, Taos Ski Valley will host the snowboard art auction Paint for Peaks featuring custom, one-of-a-kind artwork created on snowboards produced by renowned local and regional artists. This year there are more than 20 artists, including William Acheff, El Moises, Jim Keffer and Marianne Farney committed to preparing unique artistic snowboards for the sale. A list of the participating artists is available at www.paintforpeaks.com.
"Supporting our local communities and important charity organizations is Taos Ski Valley heritage, and we plan to continue that legacy for years to come," said Jesse Keaveny, Taos Ski Valley's chief marketing officer. "From the artists who have donated their craft for the auction, to the volunteers and organizers for the Bumps Challenge, the whole community is coming together for this terrific event. We look forward to making it a fun and exciting day that supports a worthy cause."
Over the last five years the Breast Cancer Awareness Day at Taos Ski Valley has raised more than $90,000 for B4BC and the Anita Salas Memorial Fund. B4BC is a non-profit, youth-focused education, awareness, and fundraising foundation whose mission is to increase awareness about breast cancer, the importance of early detection and the value of an active lifestyle. (The Taos Ski Valley event is part of the B4BC "Shred the Love" Fundraising Winter Series Campaign.) The Anita Salas Memorial Fund is a nonprofit organization that provides financial assistance for breast cancer services in New Mexico. Skiers, riders, artists, families, visitors and locals are invited to join in support of this important cause.
