NEW YORK, Aug. 31, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- K2 Intelligence, an industry-leading investigative, compliance and cyber defense services firm, announced the appointments of two senior executives who served at the forefront of banking law, virtual currency and cybersecurity regulation, and criminal crypto-currency investigations. Dana V. Syracuse will join the firm on September 10, 2015 and Vincent D'Agostino joins on August 31, 2015.
"We are thrilled to welcome both Dana and Vinny to K2 Intelligence," said Jeremy Kroll, President, CEO and Co-Founder of K2 Intelligence. "The convergence of cybersecurity and compliance led to both hires. When cybersecurity and anti-money laundering compliance teams streamline information and work together, each group can dramatically enhance the effectiveness of the other. Together, Dana and Vinny can help bridge the gap between bank compliance and cybersecurity threats in order to help the financial sector effectively protect their businesses."
Dana V. Syracuse, former Associate General Counsel of the New York State Department of Financial Services (NYDFS), joins as Managing Director and a member of K2 Intelligence's Anti-Money Laundering and Regulatory Compliance practice, led by Thomas Bock. As a senior regulator at NYDFS, Dana was instrumental in developing and implementing cybersecurity standards, crafting strategy related to emerging payment systems, drafting New York State's BitLicense virtual currency regulation, and chartering New York-based virtual currency exchanges.
Vincent D'Agostino, formerly one of the most senior Special Agents within the Cyber Branch of the Federal Bureau of Investigation's (FBI) New York Office, joins the firm as an Associate Managing Director in K2 Intelligence's U.S. Cyber Investigations and Incident Response practice, led by Austin Berglas. Vinny, one of the U.S. Government's foremost authorities on identify theft, DARK/DEEP web investigations, crypto-currency, and international botnet investigations, was instrumental in government seizures of hundreds of international TOR hidden services and servers as well as in securing convictions in connection with the dismantling of the Silk Road network.
"Virtual currency and other emerging payment systems stand to dramatically change financial transactions. Banks are embracing these products and the use of blockchain technology in order to succeed but must also include compliance early in the process so that proper controls can be identified and implemented," said Mr. Bock. "Dana's first-hand experience in developing virtual currency regulations will provide our banking clients with the most comprehensive understanding of these products and technology, as well as invaluable counsel as they prepare for the current and future compliance and cybersecurity regulatory challenges."
"Our financial institution clients, currently at the center of the cyber battlefield, will also benefit from Vinny's technical insight into the tools and strategies used to investigate the increased use of crypto-currency in cyber crime matters. He has seen first-hand how cyber criminals are using virtual currency and anonymizing services to infiltrate, steal, and cover tracks," said Mr. Berglas. "Vinny's deep investigative background is a perfect complement to our team as we provide best-in-class cyber advisory services to protect our client's reputations, brands, assets, and customers."
Earlier this year, American International Group, Inc. (AIG), a leading international insurance organization and the market leader in the underwriting of cyber insurance, endorsed the work of K2 Intelligence by acquiring a minority stake in the firm.
