K2 Intelligence Leaders Comment on Cybersecurity Strategy at Journal of Law and Cyber Warfare Symposium
Jeremy Kroll Urges the Private Sector to Take an Anticipatory Intelligence-Based Approach to Cybersecurity
NEW YORK, Nov. 7, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Senior management at K2 Intelligence, an industry-leading investigative and risk analytics services firm, spoke about corporate cybersecurity defense strategy at the Journal of Law and Cyber Warfare's first annual symposium. The event was held yesterday at John Jay College of Criminal Justice.
"The private sector will not be able to defend against cyber warfare until it can better understand and prepare for potential attackers. This calls for companies to take an anticipatory intelligence-based approach to cybersecurity," said Jeremy Kroll, president and chief executive officer at K2 Intelligence. "Static IT security is no longer effective on its own. Cybersecurity must transition to a dynamic and proactive defense that employs investigative tools to collect and analyze information from internal and external sources."
K2 Intelligence Executive Managing Directors, Mitch Silber and Gad Goldstein, also participated in panels discussing cyber adversaries including hackers, criminal organizations, non-state actors and state actors and how companies should prepare and respond to attacks. Mr. Silber and Mr. Goldstein are both cyber intelligence experts with experience in building and leading investigative technology divisions for counter-terrorism defense.
Mr. Silber was formerly the Director of Intelligence Analysis for the New York City Police Department (NYPD) where he supervised the Intelligence Division's entire portfolio of ongoing terrorism-related investigations. He built and managed both the Analytic and Cyber Intelligence Units. Mr. Silber is soon to release a book, Cyber Warfare: Understanding the Law, Policy, and Technology, with co-author Daniel Garrie, Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Law and Cyber Warfare.
Mr. Goldstein has over 30 years of experience in the Israeli Security and Intelligence community. In his last several positions, Mr. Goldstein served as a division head, in the rank equivalent to Major General. During his tenure, Mr. Goldstein established and led a new technology division, introducing innovative thought paradigms that revolutionized the field.
The team at K2 Intelligence includes expert cyber defense architects, former intelligence professionals, technology experts, security experts, and analysts with backgrounds in cyber defense, law, government intelligence analysis and data modeling. Collectively, they speak sixteen different languages and know how to interact with hackers in dark net forums to extract intelligence.
