I Want to Rock the Mall YouTube Contest Applicant, Cameron D., Received Majority Views
HERNDON, Va., May 9, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- A star was born this week, when Cameron D. of Houston, Texas received the K12 Voter's Choice Award for her original YouTube video, "Walk Together." As part of the Girl Scouts 100th anniversary, Girl Scouts around the nation submitted song entries for the Girl Scouts I Want to Rock the Mall YouTube contest sponsored by K12 Inc., America's leader in online learning for grades K through 12. The public took part in the 100th Anniversary of Girl Scouting by voting for the girl who exemplified the most creativity, originality and musicality through a powerful song about what it means to be a Girl Scout today.
"I still can't believe I won the K12 Voter's Choice Award, especially with such tough competition from all the talented girls that entered," said the winner, Cameron D. "I want to thank everyone who took the time to watch my Girl Scouts video and then voted for me."
Cameron D. received the most video views and, along with bragging rights, won a NOOK Color™ e-book tablet and powerspeaK12 foreign language course. All entrants were encouraged to share their contest entry links with friends and family to increase their respective video views via email, Facebook and Twitter.
"Each of the contest entries was outstanding and illustrated what it truly means to be a Girl Scout today," said Sara Doolittle, Marketing Director at K12. "However, there could be only one Voter's Choice winner, so on behalf of K12, I congratulate Cameron D. for winning with her amazing song and video."
Girl Scouts will gather on the National Mall in Washington, DC on June 9 for Girl Scouts Rock the Mall: 100th Anniversary Sing-Along. The grand prize winner, who is yet to be announced, will be awarded a free trip to the event as well as the opportunity to sing in front of more than 200,000 Girl Scouts Rock the Mall attendees.
