Jury Verdict In: Doppler Labs Earns 2015 Red Dot Product Design Award for DUBS Acoustic Filters
DUBS Acoustic Filters Rewarded for Bringing Advanced Design Innovation to Staid Earplug Category
NEW YORK, April 7, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- To celebrate its 60th year, the renowned Red Dot Design Awards committee recently assembled a "star-studded" jury, comprised of 38 international experts, to analyze 4,928 new products. The jury examined a range of qualities in each entry, including degree of innovation, formal quality, ergonomics and functionality. After completing its analysis, the jury formally selected Doppler Labs' DUBS Acoustic Filters to receive a 2015 Red Dot Award for Product Design.
Doppler Labs introduced DUBS Acoustic Filters in late 2014. The DUBS are stylish, high-design earplugs that utilize advanced acoustical physics. Rather than shutting out sound in the manner of traditional foam earplugs, the DUBS act as an audio "filter," letting preferred frequencies enter while minimizing the rest, preserving sound clarity for things like music and conversation. The DUBS reduce sound by 12db, softening the impact of music, sports crowds, subways and other high-decibel noises, without lessening the experience.
The DUBS have quickly become enormously popular among music fans in particular, where style often comes first. Pushing to outfit those who need them most, DUBS reflect a desire to provide an alternative to basic hearing protection. Today, attendees of festivals like Coachella – an event Doppler Labs has officially partnered with – can easily prioritize healthy hearing with a simple, appealing product.
"Red Dot Design Awards are among the world's most prestigious," said Jacob Palmborg, Director of Design, Doppler Labs. "We are beyond thrilled. We see the DUBS as a category changer in a field that demands innovation. Quite simply, the world is becoming terribly loud, and our ears risk becoming overwhelmed. With the DUBS, not only can you hear the world the way you prefer, but you can do so with a device you are proud to wear."
The Red Dot Design Awards jury included, in their words, "new members such as Danish fashion designer David Andersen, German materials expert Dr. Sascha Peters and Wen-long Chen, CEO of the Taiwan Design Center. Together they discussed the 4,928 entries in situ. Experienced Red Dot jury members also added their expertise, such as Malaysian-born star designer Datuk' Professor Jimmy Choo, German product design icon Professor Werner Aisslinger and tangerine founder Martin Darbyshire from the UK. The jury worked together to rate each individual product according to functionality, degree of innovation, formal quality, ecological compatibility and other criteria."
The DUBS come in four colors: teal, blue, pink and white. They are a small marvel, comprised of 17 discrete internal parts that work together to filter noise. They come in a small protective case that fits easily into a pocket or a clutch, and are reusable. They are an innovative first in the earplug field, which has long been dominated by low-tech foam inserts.
DUBS Acoustic Filters are currently available at Best Buy, Guitar Center, Amazon, select boutique retailers nationwide and at www.getdubs.com.

About the Red Dot Award
In order to appraise the diversity in the field of design in a professional manner, the Red Dot Design Award breaks down into the three disciplines of Red Dot Award: Product Design, Red Dot Award: Communication Design and Red Dot Award: Design Concept. The Red Dot Award was created by Design Zentrum Nordrhein Westfalen and with around 17,000 entries each year is one of the best-respected design competitions in the world. In 2015, it is celebrating its 60th anniversary: It was in 1955 that a jury convened for the first time to assess the best designs of the day. The sought-after award, the "Red Dot," is the revered international seal of outstanding design quality. Award-winning designers, manufacturers and agencies use the Red Dot winner label and receive numerous other winners' privileges, such as the presentation of the award-winning product on Red Dot Online, in the Red Dot Design Yearbook, the Red Dot App and on Red Dot 21. Additionally, the winning products are communicated in the international PR activities of Red Dot and exhibited in the Red Dot Design Museum Essen for a whole year.
