NEW YORK, Nov. 8, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- On Tuesday, November 6, Rodney O. Martin, Jr., Chairman and CEO, Voya Financial, and longtime partner of JA New York, was honored with the 2018 Leadership Award for his dedication to Junior Achievement of New York and the young leaders their programs inspire. Rod said, "As we develop the next generation of leaders, innovators and job creators, we will all be well-served to ensure that we have diverse slates of candidates – for new opportunities, for promotions, and for leadership roles."
Over 350 business leaders and professionals gathered to celebrate the evening's honorees and to raise funds to support the delivery of financial literacy, entrepreneurship and work readiness programs to over 90,000 K-12 students in New York City, Long Island and Lower Hudson Valley. The event raised $700,000 to support JA programs across 300 schools.
Young Innovator of the Year award was presented to Scott Gerber, CEO, The Community Company and Founder, Young Entrepreneur Council, for his dedication to supporting future business leaders. Scott said, "Every successful person stands on the shoulders of giants. And there is no greater gift we can give or receive than to be that strong set of shoulders that someone else can stand on."
Lastly, Josue Quintero, a senior at Brooklyn Preparatory High School, received the $10,000 Manuel H. and Claire Barron Student of the Year Scholarship to support his college dreams at the Gala at Gotham Hall. At the gala, Josue stated, "Because of JA, I am able to stand in front of you this evening and confidently say I am on my way to a successful life after high school."
