June is National Migraine and Headache Awareness Month
CHICAGO, June 11, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The theme for June, 2015, reflects the 45th anniversary of the establishment of the National Headache Foundation, "Inspiring Hope through Advocacy, Awareness, Education, and Research."
The global burden of headache is extremely large, putting headache among the top 10 causes of disability worldwide. It is estimated that 1,000,000,000 people in the world suffer from migraines. Over 36 million Americans experience migraine headaches – that is 12 percent of the population. And headaches cause an estimated 88.4 hours of missed school and work. The annual cost of migraine – including hospital admissions, visits to the physician and emergency room, and prescription medications – totals $7,089 per patient.
As in previous years, the National Headache Foundation is standing up to "show purple, show support" during awareness month.
