"The youth of this world are shaping the future of technology in the Apple ecosystem and driving the collaboration economy. We are thrilled to support the development and innovation coming from this next generation of technologists and visionaries at Macworld/iWorld 2014," said Paul Kent, general manager of Macworld/iWorld. "From an open house with Jean MacDonald from App Camp for Girls and a "how-to" session for incorporating iPads into education, to showcasing innovative student projects that push the envelope at Hawaii Prep Academy—Macworld/iWorld 2014 has some amazing content aimed to spur growth and innovation for young entrepreneurs."
This year, Macworld/iWorld is offering technology education and training for girls and women, who tend to be minorities in the technology industry and more specifically, the application development community. In support of this effort, Macworld/iWorld 2014 is hosting App Camp for Girls, a Portland, Ore.-based organization with goals to inspire teen and pre-teen girls to pursue careers in software development. During Macworld/iWorld 2014, Founder Jean MacDonald will host App Camp for Girls Open House to encourage girls 12-years and older to brainstorm and share their own iPhone app ideas and learn to concept and build apps. The session will also feature an introduction to Xcode — Apple's suite of tools for building iOS apps. This session will be a great chance for girls to get an introduction to app development and find out more about the resources App Camp for Girls provides. This open house session is open to all Macworld/iWorld attendees on Saturday, March 29 starting at 10:00 a.m.
"The App Camp for Girls open house at Macworld/iWorld is an empowering opportunity for young girls and the Apple community to learn about app developing, connect with their peers, get inspired and innovate in new ways," said Jean MacDonald. "Macworld/iWorld is a unique event where community and innovation collide to create a supportive place for people to interact, learn and grow—this mirrors what we hope to accomplish with App Camp for Girls."
To showcase some of the innovation coming from young entrepreneurs, Dr. Bill Wiecking from Hawaii Prep Academy will be joining Macworld/iWorld 2014 on Saturday, March 29 at 1:00 p.m. to showcase innovative solutions and projects created by high school students. Last year, students wowed the crowd with a mind-powered flying quad rotor and projects on earthquakes and DNA. This year's rapid-fire sessions touch on projects and innovation in MIDI-brain interfaces, sleep apnea studies, aging patient music therapy with EEG, Tetris and your brain, and High Dynamic Range Virtual Reality using Phantom and other drones.
Furthermore on Saturday, March 29 at 10:00 a.m., Lead Teacher Mark Mautone from Hoboken Public Schools will lead a session for educators on iPad learning. The session will touch on the importance of incorporating iPad learning into general and special education classrooms to deliver enriched curriculum with the technology and intuitive learning techniques that children already use. Mr. Mautone will lead attendees through creating interactive app-like programs, innovative lesson plans and media enhanced curriculum.
