Jumbo Employers to Maintain Health Insurance Coverage for Employees According to New Research From The Benfield Group
The sky is not falling. Jumbo employers in the U.S. to continue to offer health care coverage in stark contrast to recent reports that state otherwise.
ST. LOUIS, June 14, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- News coverage of how U.S. health care reform will impact health insurance benefits offered by employers has varied widely and been sensational. A recent report published in The McKinsey Quarterly has garnered attention. The Benfield Group would like to offer a different perspective. We have conducted extensive research with jumbo employers (5000+ employees) in the U.S. and have concluded they will continue to offer comprehensive health insurance benefits to their employees. Benfield Business Health Leadership recently published a four-page perspective on this topic along with a thought-provoking summary of our findings: http://www.benfield.com/perspectives/Pers6_9_11.php
It is clear from our latest research that jumbo employers, in fact, will not be dropping coverage of their employees. Just 7% of jumbo employers are considering dropping active employee healthcare coverage in 2015 and beyond. Jumbo employers are working harder than ever to shore up coverage, manage expenses and provide compelling benefits to their employees.
Our research indicates employers will remain actively involved in healthcare decisions and benefits offerings for their employees and dependents for the foreseeable future. Only 1% of employers describe their approach to providing active employee benefits post reform as "looking for the exits." At The Benfield Group we believe the sky is not falling as news reports might suggest but it is changing color.
A deeper dive into the data and findings based on our research and interviews can be found in the Employer Market Healthcare Reform Report which is exclusively available for purchase: http://office.benfield.com/attachments/Benfield_Research_Special_Report_on_Healthcare_Reform_2011.pdf
